Yum! Brands Edges Up 0.4% as KFC Growth and Pizza Hut Divestiture Support Outlook

Yum! Brands (NYSE: YUM) shares rose about 0.4% after the company reported third-quarter 2026 results highlighted by strong KFC expansion, completion of the Pizza Hut divestiture and continued capital returns.

Third-quarter GAAP EPS was $5.92, boosted by an approximately $1.7 billion pre-tax gain related to the sale of Pizza Hut. EPS excluding special items was $1.56.

Excluding Pizza Hut, Yum! increased its unit count by 7%, including 955 gross new openings during the quarter. KFC remained the strongest contributor, with system sales up 6%, same-store sales up 1% and unit growth of 7%. KFC core operating profit increased 8%.

Taco Bell delivered a softer quarter, with system sales down 2% and same-store sales down 4%, while core operating profit declined 4%. However, management said Taco Bell U.S. has been outperforming the broader quick-service restaurant industry on same-store sales growth since the end of September.

Digital sales remained an important growth driver, exceeding $9 billion during the quarter and representing 64% of system sales.

Yum! also returned $1.8 billion to shareholders through dividends and share repurchases year to date. Following the completion of the Pizza Hut divestiture, management is focusing the portfolio more heavily on KFC and Taco Bell.

The modest 0.4% gain appears to reflect a mixed operating picture. KFC’s strong development, portfolio simplification and continued shareholder returns were supportive, but weaker Taco Bell same-store sales and only 1% quarterly core operating profit growth excluding Pizza Hut limited the upside.
Yum! Brands Completes $2.7 Billion Pizza Hut Sale, Sharpens Focus on KFC and Taco Bell

Yum! Brands (NYSE: YUM) has completed the sale of its Pizza Hut business outside mainland China to private equity firm LongRange Capital for approximately $1.5 billion, marking the final step in the restaurant group’s exit from the global Pizza Hut business. Yum! could also receive an additional $75 million earn-out by 2030 depending on future performance.

The transaction follows the previously announced sale of Pizza Hut’s mainland China operations to Yum China Holdings, which closed on August 7. Combined, the two transactions value Yum!’s divestiture of Pizza Hut at approximately $2.7 billion, subject to purchase-price adjustments.

The sale significantly reshapes Yum!’s portfolio. Following the divestiture, the company’s restaurant brands consist of KFC, Taco Bell and Habit Burger & Grill, which together operate or franchise more than 44,000 restaurants across 151 countries and territories.

Yum! said the transaction allows it to move forward as a more focused company, concentrating resources on global growth, restaurant economics, digital capabilities and its Byte by Yum! technology platform. The strategy puts greater emphasis on KFC and Taco Bell, the company’s two largest global brands.

For investors, the $2.7 billion Pizza Hut exit represents a major portfolio simplification. By removing Pizza Hut, Yum! can concentrate capital and management attention on brands with stronger strategic positioning while continuing to expand its digital and technology infrastructure. The transaction also provides substantial proceeds that increase the company’s financial flexibility as it pursues its next phase of growth.
Yum! Brands Stock Rallies on Strong Q2 Results and Pizza Hut Divestiture

Yum! Brands (NYSE: YUM) shares rose 4% in premarket trading after the restaurant operator reported strong second-quarter results, fueled by robust Taco Bell performance, continued global unit expansion and strategic progress toward becoming a more focused business following the sale of Pizza Hut.

Second-quarter adjusted EPS increased 12% year over year to $1.62, while worldwide system sales grew 5% excluding currency effects. The company expanded its global footprint by 1,053 gross new restaurants during the quarter, lifting total unit count by 5%. Core operating profit also increased 5%, supported by higher sales and continued margin strength across the portfolio.

Taco Bell Leads Another Strong Quarter

Taco Bell remained Yum!'s strongest growth engine, with system sales rising 9% and same-store sales increasing 7%. Operating profit jumped 19% as the brand continued to attract customers in both the U.S. and international markets.

KFC also delivered solid results, posting 6% system sales growth and opening 660 new restaurants across 55 countries. The division benefited from continued global expansion and the rollout of its refreshed brand strategy centered on boneless chicken and menu innovation.

Excluding Pizza Hut, Yum!'s digital system sales approached $9 billion during the quarter, with digital orders accounting for more than 60% of system sales, highlighting the company's continued investment in technology and customer engagement.

Pizza Hut Sale Reshapes the Portfolio

During the quarter, Yum! reached definitive agreements to sell Pizza Hut. The international Pizza Hut business will be acquired by LongRange Capital, while Yum China will purchase the Mainland China operations.

Management said the transactions conclude the strategic review process and position Yum! to become a more focused company centered on accelerating growth across its remaining brands. The company also emphasized continued investment in its Byte by Yum! digital platform to improve restaurant economics and enhance long-term shareholder value.

What to Watch

Investors welcomed the combination of accelerating same-store sales, continued global expansion and the strategic simplification of Yum!'s brand portfolio. Going forward, markets will focus on the completion of the Pizza Hut transactions, the continued momentum at Taco Bell and KFC, and whether the company's technology investments can sustain strong digital growth and restaurant profitability.
Byte by Yum! Drives Higher Customer Satisfaction and Digital Sales at Yum! Brands

Yum! Brands reported that its proprietary restaurant technology platform, Byte by Yum!™, is delivering measurable improvements in customer satisfaction, operational efficiency, and digital sales across its global brands, including KFC, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and Habit Burger & Grill.

The Byte by Yum! platform consists of AI-driven SaaS products designed to streamline restaurant operations. Key tools include Byte Inventory, which uses real-time, AI-powered forecasting to manage stock more efficiently, and Byte Coach, which optimizes daily operations by integrating sales forecasts, customer feedback, and best-practice routines. Byte Inventory is currently deployed in around 80% of U.S. Taco Bell locations, with broader rollout planned across Yum! brands by 2026, while Byte Coach is active in nearly 30,000 KFC and Pizza Hut restaurants worldwide. In some markets, Byte Coach has contributed to customer satisfaction improvements of up to 10%.

These technologies are supported by Yum!’s proprietary Crave AI platform and a strategic partnership with NVIDIA to power AI agents within the Byte ecosystem. As a result, Yum! reported more than $30 billion in digital sales in 2024, with 2025 on track to exceed that level. In the third quarter of 2025 alone, digital system sales surpassed $10 billion, representing a record digital mix of 60%. More than 25,000 restaurants globally now use at least one Byte by Yum! product.
Pizza Hut’s BOOK IT! Program Still Inspiring Young Readers After 41 Years

Yum! Brands highlights the enduring impact of Pizza Hut’s BOOK IT! program, which has encouraged more than 70 million children to develop a love of reading since 1984 by rewarding reading goals with a free Personal Pan Pizza.

In an interview, Prisma Garcia — associate manager of BOOK IT! and a former participant — shared her personal connection to the program, saying it not only motivated her to read but also created special family memories.

BOOK IT! continues to reach new generations through both traditional schools and homeschool options, and in 2025 expanded with a redesigned website and mobile app to make tracking progress and rewards easier.

Created by a former Pizza Hut president to motivate his son to read, BOOK IT! has become the largest and longest-running corporate-sponsored reading program in the U.S., reinforcing Pizza Hut’s commitment to learning, connection and community.
Yum! Brands Reports Strong Q3 2025; Begins Strategic Review of Pizza Hut

Yum! Brands, Inc. (NYSE: YUM) posted solid third-quarter 2025 results, highlighted by continued growth at Taco Bell and KFC and the launch of a strategic review for Pizza Hut. GAAP EPS was $1.41, while adjusted EPS excluding special items rose 15% year over year to $1.58.

Worldwide system sales increased 5% excluding currency effects, driven by Taco Bell’s 9% growth and KFC’s 6% expansion. Global unit count grew 3% with 1,131 new openings, while digital system sales hit a record $10 billion, representing about 60% of total system sales.

New CEO Chris Turner outlined three key priorities for the company: engaging the next generation of consumers, leveraging global scale to improve franchisee economics, and expanding the Byte digital platform across more restaurants.

As part of its strategic initiatives, Yum! announced a review of strategic options for Pizza Hut aimed at maximizing long-term value creation. Turner said the brand’s strong global footprint and franchise network position it well to “reclaim leadership in the fragmented pizza category.”

Yum! also plans to acquire 128 Taco Bell restaurants in the U.S. Southeast during Q4, expanding its equity-owned base and supporting operating profit growth. The company named Ranjith Roy as its new CFO, Sean Tresvant as Taco Bell CEO and Yum! Chief Consumer Officer, and Jim Dausch as Chief Digital & Technology Officer and President of Byte by Yum!.

With robust performance across its core brands and record digital engagement, Yum! enters the final quarter of 2025 well positioned for continued growth and shareholder value creation.
Taco Bell, part of Yum! Brands (NYSE: YUM), is expanding its new Live Más Café concept, with 30 additional locations set to open by the end of 2025.

The cafés, first launched in December 2024, focus on premium, specialty beverages such as Refrescas, specialty coffees, and Churro Chillers. Each operates as a “shop-within-a-shop” inside Taco Bell restaurants, staffed by dedicated “Bellristas” who provide a more handcrafted, café-style experience.
The concept was inspired by the fast-growing U.S. nonalcoholic beverage market (valued at $169.5 billion in 2024, with specialty coffees making up more than 25%). Early results exceeded expectations: sales at the first Live Más Café were four times above forecasts within two weeks of opening.

By positioning beverages as a core attraction, not just an add-on to tacos and Crunchwraps, Taco Bell aims to broaden daypart usage, capture new traffic, and increase average check sizes. With early success in California and Texas, the concept is being positioned as a premium growth driver for the brand’s future.

The timing, interest rate, and completion of the refinancing remain subject to market conditions.
Yum! Brands has announced that Chris Turner will become Chief Executive Officer effective October 1, 2025, succeeding current CEO David Gibbs, who will stay on as an adviser through 2026. Turner, currently the company’s Chief Financial & Franchise Officer, has played a key role in digital transformation efforts and global franchise initiatives, including the development of Byte by Yum! and Saucy by KFC.

Gibbs, who served as CEO since 2020 and has been with the company for 37 years, led Yum! through the COVID-19 pandemic and drove major growth in digital sales and new restaurant openings. The board expressed strong confidence in Turner’s leadership to advance Yum!’s growth and innovation strategies across its global portfolio, which includes KFC, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and Habit Burger & Grill.
