Woodward Stock Falls 3.3% as Melius Research Cuts Rating to Hold

Woodward shares fell 3.3% to $326.12 on Monday after Melius Research moved its rating on the aerospace and industrial components company to Hold from Buy. Analyst Scott Mikus maintained a $388 price target, implying roughly 19% upside from the current share price.

Beyond the analyst action, the decline may reflect valuation concerns after strong investor interest in aerospace and defense stocks. Woodward has benefited from robust commercial aviation activity, higher aircraft utilization and continued demand for aerospace aftermarket components.

The longer-term backdrop remains supported by rising aircraft production, maintenance demand and defense spending. However, after a strong run in aerospace-related valuations, investors may be becoming more selective about how much future growth is already reflected in share prices.

Monday’s 3.3% decline therefore appears consistent with the less-bullish analyst stance and broader valuation caution rather than necessarily signaling a deterioration in Woodward’s underlying aerospace and defense exposure.
Woodward, Inc. reported a strong start to fiscal 2026, with first-quarter results exceeding expectations and prompting an upward revision to full-year guidance. Net sales rose 29% year over year to $996 million, while net earnings increased 54% to $134 million, lifting diluted EPS by 53% to $2.17. Operating cash flow reached $114 million and free cash flow totaled $70 million, reflecting broad-based demand and improved execution across the portfolio. Management highlighted margin expansion in Aerospace, supported by a higher mix of commercial services activity and strong defense OEM demand, while Industrial performance was driven by strength in power generation, transportation, and oil and gas.
