Lakeland Financial Rises 3.8% as Record Q3 Earnings, Loan Growth and Margin Expansion Impress

Lakeland Financial (NASDAQ: LKFN) shares rose about 3.8% after the company reported record third-quarter 2026 earnings, supported by strong loan growth and continued improvement in net interest margin.

Net income increased 9% year over year to a record $28.9 million, while diluted EPS rose 11% to $1.14. Total revenue climbed 6% to $73.0 million, and net interest income increased 8% to $60.7 million.

Loan growth was a major driver. Total loans increased 8% year over year to $5.68 billion, including 12% growth in commercial and industrial lending and 16% growth in residential mortgages. Core deposits also expanded 3% to $6.05 billion.

Profitability benefited from improving funding economics. Net interest margin expanded to 3.58%, up 8 basis points year over year and 9 basis points sequentially, as lower deposit costs more than offset weaker earning-asset yields. Funding costs declined to 2.13% from 2.37% a year earlier.

Credit quality also improved, with nonperforming loans falling to 0.32% of total loans from 0.36% a year earlier and declining 10% sequentially to $18 million. The bank maintained capital levels well above regulatory requirements.

The 3.8% gain appears to reflect the combination of record earnings, healthy loan growth, expanding margins and stable credit quality. Lakeland Financial also continued share repurchases and raised its quarterly dividend 4% to $0.52 per share, reinforcing the positive capital-return picture.
Lakeland Financial Corporation reported net income of $20.1 million for the first quarter of 2025, a 14% decrease compared to the same quarter in 2024. Net interest income rose 12% year-over-year, supported by a 25-basis-point expansion in net interest margin to 3.40%. Organic loan growth reached 4% annually, and core deposits expanded 7%. However, the company recorded a provision for credit losses of $6.8 million, primarily due to a previously disclosed nonperforming credit, which contributed to the overall earnings decline. Tangible book value per share increased by 7% year-over-year to $26.85, and the company's capital ratios remained strong, with a common equity tier 1 capital ratio of 14.51%.

The company’s deposit base showed healthy growth, increasing 6% year-over-year to $5.96 billion, while noninterest income fell 13% largely due to a prior-year insurance recovery not repeated this quarter. Asset quality remained relatively stable despite higher nonperforming assets linked to a single credit. The bank also announced a 4% dividend increase and the reauthorization of its $30 million share repurchase program. Management emphasized strong liquidity, improved net interest margin, and a solid loan pipeline, while acknowledging continued monitoring of potential impacts from tariff-related economic developments.
