Garmin's Autoland Debuts in Cirrus SR Series G7+, First Ever in Piston-Powered Aircraft

On May 7, 2025, Garmin announced that its certified Autoland system will now come standard in all Cirrus SR Series G7+ models—SR20, SR22, and SR22T—making them the first piston-powered aircraft equipped with Garmin’s Safe Return Emergency Autoland technology. This feature enables the aircraft to autonomously land in the event of pilot incapacitation, offering a new level of safety for general aviation.

The SR Series G7+ also includes Garmin’s GDL 60 datalink for automatic database updates and advanced cockpit connectivity, as well as Runway Occupancy Awareness (ROA) to prevent runway incursions. Garmin Autoland, first introduced in 2019 and already installed in over 1,000 aircraft, is now expanding beyond turbine-powered platforms to broader segments of the aviation market.

Garmin praised Cirrus for its leadership in aviation innovation, noting that more than 450 Cirrus Vision Jets are already flying with Safe Return. This rollout of Autoland in the SR Series G7+ further extends the accessibility of autonomous safety systems to more pilots and aircraft owners.
