BCE Sells Stake in MLSE to Fund U.S. Expansion with Ziply Fiber Acquisition
BCE Inc. has completed the sale of its minority stake in Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment (MLSE) to Rogers Communications for CA$4.7 billion. The proceeds, net of taxes ($4.2 billion), will help finance BCE’s acquisition of Ziply Fiber, a leading fiber internet provider in the U.S. Pacific Northwest. As part of its growth strategy, BCE and PSP Investments aim to reach up to 8 million U.S. fiber locations through their Network FiberCo venture. BCE has also secured long-term media rights for the Toronto Maple Leafs and Raptors on TSN through the 2043/44 season. The sale strengthens BCE’s core telecom operations while maintaining its position in Canadian sports media.
