Vistra Rises 4% as Q3 EBITDA Jumps More Than 50% and 2027 Outlook Signals Further Growth

Vistra (NYSE: VST) shares rose about 4% after the company reported a sharp increase in third-quarter earnings, raised its 2026 outlook and introduced a stronger 2027 growth framework.

Third-quarter net income rose to $1.14 billion from $652 million a year earlier, while ongoing operations adjusted EBITDA increased more than 50% to $2.38 billion.

The improvement was driven by higher realized energy and capacity prices, contributions from acquired generation assets and strong fleet availability during a period of record electricity demand in ERCOT and PJM.

Vistra raised and narrowed its 2026 adjusted EBITDA guidance to $7.1-$7.5 billion and introduced 2027 guidance of $7.7-$8.5 billion. Adjusted free cash flow before growth is expected at $4.3-$4.7 billion in 2026 and $4.3-$5.1 billion in 2027.

The company also authorized an additional $1.5 billion of share repurchases, bringing remaining authorization to roughly $2.5 billion, and recently completed its acquisition of Cogentrix Energy, adding approximately 5,500 MW of natural gas generation capacity.

The 4% share gain appears to reflect strong EBITDA growth, higher forward guidance, additional buybacks and continued exposure to rising power demand from data centers and other large-load customers.
