Brent Crude Falls 3.7% as Iran Peace Talks Ease Immediate Supply Fears

Brent crude fell sharply on Monday, trading around $109.21 a barrel and down about 3.7%, as renewed diplomatic efforts involving Iran and Qatari mediators reduced some of the geopolitical risk premium that had built into oil prices. (The Wall Street Journal)

The decline follows a strong October rally that pushed Brent to its highest level in roughly six months. With no major military escalation over the weekend and negotiations continuing, traders appear to be taking profits and reassessing the probability of further disruption to oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz. However, underlying supply conditions remain tight. Regional disruptions have already depleted global inventories significantly, while diesel stocks remain unusually low in several markets. That means the current decline appears more related to a reduction in geopolitical risk premium and profit-taking than to a fundamental shift toward abundant supply. (Reuters)

The key near-term driver remains the Iran diplomatic process: meaningful progress could push more risk premium out of crude prices, while renewed military escalation could quickly reverse the current selloff.
