UK Labor Market Strengthens as Employment Jumps and Unemployment Falls
The U.K. labor market showed stronger-than-expected momentum in August, with employment rising sharply and the unemployment rate declining.
Employment increased by 102,000 on a three-month-on-three-month basis, far above the 20,000 consensus estimate and up from the previous increase of 67,000.
The unemployment rate fell to 4.7%, better than the 4.9% forecast and down from 4.9% previously.
The data point to a firmer labor market than economists expected, with stronger hiring and lower unemployment.
