IBM Adds Self-Hosted Deployment for Bob to Expand Enterprise AI Sovereignty

IBM introduced a self-hosted deployment option for IBM Bob, its agentic software development platform, allowing enterprises to run AI-powered development and modernization tools inside on-premises, private-cloud, sovereign-cloud and air-gapped environments.

The new deployment model is aimed at organizations handling sensitive source code, regulated data or mission-critical systems that may not be able to use public AI platforms because of security, compliance and data-residency requirements.

With the self-hosted version, enterprises can keep code, application context and data inside infrastructure they control while still using Bob for software development and modernization. Organizations can run supported licensed models on premises or connect Bob to external model services through hybrid configurations.

IBM said the approach allows customers to “bring AI to the data” rather than moving sensitive data to external AI services. The company is targeting regulated industries and organizations with strict governance requirements, including financial services, healthcare, telecommunications and government.

The launch reflects growing demand for sovereign and hybrid AI infrastructure as enterprises seek more control over where AI workloads run, what data they access and how they are governed.
