Chevron Shares Rise After Strong Q2 Results Driven by Record Production and Cash Flow

Chevron (NYSE: CVX) shares rose 0.76% on Friday after the energy giant reported strong second-quarter results, supported by record U.S. production, higher oil prices and improved refining performance.

The company reported second-quarter earnings of $12.1 billion, or $6.11 per share, while adjusted earnings came in at $12.0 billion, or $6.06 per share. Cash flow from operations surged to $22.6 billion, reflecting higher commodity prices, record production and increased contributions from recently acquired Hess assets.

Record Production Supports Growth

Chevron delivered record U.S. production during the quarter, while worldwide production increased 20% year over year to more than 4.0 million barrels of oil equivalent per day. The growth was driven by the Hess acquisition and continued expansion in the Permian Basin and Gulf of America.

The company also achieved record crude throughput at its U.S. refineries, with utilization exceeding 97%, supporting strong downstream earnings as refining margins remained favorable.

AI Infrastructure and Cost Savings Highlight Long-Term Strategy

Chevron highlighted continued progress on its long-term strategy, reaching its structural cost reduction target of $3 billion six months ahead of schedule while delivering $1.5 billion of annual run-rate synergies from the Hess acquisition.

The company also signed a 20-year agreement with Microsoft to supply approximately 2.67 gigawatts of dedicated power for a West Texas data center, expanding its exposure to the growing AI infrastructure market.

What to Watch

Investors will continue monitoring Chevron's production growth, integration of Hess assets, capital discipline and execution of major projects tied to AI infrastructure and global energy demand. The company's ability to sustain strong cash generation while returning capital to shareholders remains a key focus.
