Brazil Retail Sales Fall Sharply, Missing Expectations in April
Brazil's retail sector weakened significantly in April, with sales falling more than expected on both a monthly and annual basis, signaling softer consumer demand in Latin America's largest economy.
Retail sales declined 1.5% month-over-month, well below expectations for a 0.6% decrease and reversing the 0.7% increase recorded in March. On an annual basis, retail sales rose just 1.0%, missing forecasts for 2.0% growth and slowing sharply from the previous month's 4.0% increase.
