UnitedHealthcare announced it is expanding efforts to standardize prior authorization processes, with more than 50% of requests already included in a new industrywide electronic submission framework and a target of over 70% by the end of 2026.

The initiative aims to simplify administrative procedures for providers, reduce delays, and improve patient access to care by standardizing documentation requirements across commercial, Medicare Advantage, and Medicaid plans.

The move is part of broader efforts to modernize prior authorization, including reducing required services, expanding digital tools, and improving transparency, while maintaining clinical safeguards and coverage standards.
