Union Pacific announced it has reached an agreement with the American Train Dispatchers Association to guarantee lifetime job protection for union members in connection with its planned merger with Norfolk Southern.
The agreement ensures that train dispatchers employed at the time of the merger will retain their jobs for life, subject to standard employment conditions. The ATDA becomes the sixth major rail union to secure similar protections as part of the proposed combination, which aims to create the first single-line, coast-to-coast railroad in the United States.
Union Pacific said the deal reflects its commitment to workforce stability and support during the merger process, while union representatives expressed support for the transaction following the job security assurances.
The agreement marks a key milestone in advancing the merger, highlighting efforts to address labor concerns and secure broader industry backing.
