BioNTech announced plans for its co-founders Ugur Sahin and Özlem Türeci to establish a new independent biotechnology company focused on developing next-generation mRNA technologies. BioNTech intends to contribute certain mRNA-related rights and technologies to the new company in exchange for a minority stake, while continuing to focus on advancing its own late-stage clinical pipeline, including immunomodulators, antibody-drug conjugates and mRNA candidates. Sahin and Türeci are expected to transition to leadership roles at the new company by the end of 2026, as BioNTech moves toward its goal of becoming a multi-product biopharmaceutical company by 2030.
