Garmin Ltd. (NYSE: GRMN) has launched a new Community Champions program to recognize local changemakers within the cities hosting its Garmin Marathon Series.
The initiative will highlight runners and fitness advocates who have made a positive impact in their communities through health, wellness and performance. In each host city, an application phase will be followed by the selection of three to five finalists. Finalists’ stories will be shared ahead of race day, and one Community Champion will be announced at the starting line, helping lead the official race countdown.
To be eligible, nominees must be at least 18 years old, live in or near a Garmin Marathon Series host city, and be present on race day. Submissions will be evaluated based on how individuals have inspired others to be active or contributed to their communities through running and fitness.
Applications are currently open for Durham, North Carolina, until March 31. Finalists are expected to be announced in early April, with the inaugural Community Champion revealed on May 2, 2026. Applications for Toledo, Ohio, and Tucson, Arizona, will open approximately two months before their respective race days.
The Garmin Marathon Series, wholly owned and produced by Garmin, launched in fall 2025 and includes marathon (Boston qualifier), half marathon, 10K and 5K distances. Registration remains open for all race distances across Durham, Toledo and Tucson.
