Lockheed Martin’s Sikorsky Wins South Korea Presidential Helicopter Program
Lockheed Martin’s (NYSE: LMT) Sikorsky unit has been selected to supply the S-92A+ helicopter for the Republic of Korea Air Force’s Presidential Helicopter II program.
The selection extends Sikorsky’s longstanding role in South Korea, where the Air Force has operated three S-92 helicopters for presidential transport since 2007.
Korea Aviation Engineering & Maintenance Service, a subsidiary of Korea Aerospace Industries, will perform in-country mission equipment completion. The contract also includes special mission equipment, spare parts and field service support.
The S-92A+ includes upgraded engines, a new Phase IV main gearbox and increased payload or fuel capacity. Sikorsky said the changes are designed to improve performance and mission flexibility for head-of-state and VIP transport.
The award reinforces Lockheed Martin’s position in the South Korean defense market while supporting continued production of the S-92 platform, which has accumulated more than 2.6 million fleet flight hours across more than 300 aircraft delivered to 28 countries.
