Equinix Opens AI-Ready SG6 Data Center in Singapore With Up to 20 MW Capacity
Equinix (NASDAQ: EQIX) opened SG6, its sixth International Business Exchange data center in Singapore, expanding capacity for AI, high-performance computing and other data-intensive workloads.
The facility launches with approximately $290 million of initial investment, 8 MW of capacity and about 1,550 cabinets. At full build-out, SG6 is expected to provide up to 20 MW of IT capacity.
SG6 is designed for high-density AI deployments and includes liquid-cooling capabilities to support power-intensive GPU infrastructure. The facility is targeting a Power Usage Effectiveness ratio of 1.20 and Green Mark Platinum certification.
Equinix also plans to open a Co-Innovation Facility at SG6 with the National University of Singapore in 2027, focused on technologies including liquid cooling, cognitive digital twins and battery energy storage.
The expansion strengthens Equinix’s position in one of Asia-Pacific’s most important connectivity hubs and adds infrastructure capacity aimed directly at growing AI and cloud demand. Singapore is already connected through more than 17 subsea cable systems within Equinix’s network, supporting the facility’s role as a regional digital infrastructure gateway.
