Enbridge Falls 2.8% Despite Higher Earnings as Equity Raise and Acquisition Spending Weigh
Enbridge (NYSE: ENB) shares fell about 2.8% after the company reported higher third-quarter earnings and reaffirmed its 2026 financial guidance, but investors appeared to focus on elevated capital deployment and recent equity financing.
Third-quarter adjusted earnings rose to C$1.1 billion, or C$0.49 per share, from C$1.0 billion, or C$0.46 per share, a year earlier. Adjusted EBITDA increased to C$4.4 billion from C$4.3 billion, while distributable cash flow improved to C$2.7 billion.
Operating cash flow, however, declined to C$2.7 billion from C$2.9 billion. Enbridge also recently completed a C$3.0 billion common equity offering to help fund acquisitions and preserve financial flexibility.
The company announced several transactions, including the US$2.6 billion acquisition of Tallgrass Energy’s crude oil business, a US$0.6 billion Salt Creek Midstream acquisition and a US$0.5 billion agreement to acquire Laramie Energy assets.
Enbridge reaffirmed its 2026 guidance and said its secured growth backlog stands at C$38 billion after placing more than C$3 billion of gas transmission projects into service during the quarter.
The 2.8% decline appears to reflect investor concern over equity dilution and the scale of near-term acquisition and capital spending, despite stable underlying earnings, a large project backlog and reaffirmed guidance.
