Pfizer Slips 0.8% Despite Strong Q3 Execution and Raised 2026 Guidance
Pfizer (NYSE: PFE) shares fell about 0.75% despite reporting solid third-quarter 2026 results and raising both its full-year revenue and adjusted EPS guidance.
Third-quarter revenue was $16.6 billion, roughly flat year over year on an operational basis. Excluding Comirnaty and Paxlovid, revenue increased 7% operationally, while launched and acquired products grew 32%, highlighting stronger momentum across Pfizer’s newer portfolio.
Reported net income fell 8% to $3.24 billion, while reported EPS declined to $0.56 from $0.62. Adjusted EPS was unchanged at $0.87, and adjusted income increased slightly to $4.99 billion.
Pfizer raised its 2026 revenue guidance to $62.0 billion-$64.0 billion from $60.5 billion-$62.5 billion, increasing the midpoint by $1.5 billion. The company also raised and narrowed adjusted EPS guidance to $2.95-$3.05 from $2.80-$3.00.
The outlook includes a $650 million acquired in-process R&D charge related to the Innovent Biologics collaboration, which reduced earnings by roughly $0.10 per share. Pfizer also increased its R&D expense outlook to $10.8 billion-$11.8 billion.
The 0.75% decline appears to reflect a market reaction that is more cautious than the headline results suggest. While guidance was raised and non-COVID products continued to grow, total quarterly revenue remained essentially flat and adjusted EPS showed no year-over-year growth. Investors may also be weighing the higher R&D spending required to support Pfizer’s late-stage pipeline against the improving commercial momentum.
