Boston Scientific Falls 7% as Weak Q3 Growth and Soft Q4 Outlook Pressure Shares

Boston Scientific (NYSE: BSX) shares fell about 7% after the company reported only modest third-quarter 2026 sales growth, lower earnings and a weak fourth-quarter outlook.

Third-quarter sales increased just 1.5% year over year to $5.14 billion on both a reported and organic basis. GAAP EPS fell to $0.40 from $0.51, while adjusted EPS declined to $0.73 from $0.75.

Growth was subdued across major businesses. MedSurg sales increased only 0.7% organically, while Cardiovascular grew 1.9%. Geographically, U.S. sales rose just 0.5%, while APAC declined 1.1% operationally. Management also acknowledged that 2026 has been a challenging year, including disruption from a cybersecurity incident.

The near-term outlook was the bigger concern. Boston Scientific now expects fourth-quarter sales to decline approximately 1% to 3% year over year on both a reported and organic basis, with adjusted EPS of $0.77-$0.79.

For the full year, the company expects reported sales growth of about 4.25%, organic growth of roughly 3.75% and adjusted EPS of $3.16-$3.18.

The 7% decline appears to reflect investor disappointment with slowing organic growth, lower earnings and especially the projected fourth-quarter revenue contraction, which outweighed continued product approvals and pipeline progress.
