Phillips 66 Edges 0.1% Higher as Refining Utilization and Cash Returns Support Q3 Results
Phillips 66 (NYSE: PSX) shares rose about 0.1% after the company reported strong third-quarter operating performance, high refinery utilization and substantial capital returns.
Third-quarter earnings and adjusted earnings were $5.6 billion, or $14.08 per share. Refining utilization reached 98%, while the Central Corridor processed a record 848,000 barrels per day. Distillate yield also reached a quarterly record of 41%, with clean product yield at 86%.
Midstream operations remained strong, with fractionation volumes of 1 million barrels per day, wellhead volumes of 4.6 Bcf per day and 105% utilization at the Freeport LPG export dock.
Phillips 66 returned $2.8 billion to shareholders through dividends and share repurchases during the quarter. It also reduced total debt by $2.0 billion to $18.5 billion and cut net debt by $3.8 billion to $12.7 billion.
The company continues to advance growth projects, including the Western Gateway Pipeline, the Coastal Bend expansion and major petrochemical projects in Texas and Qatar.
The modest 0.1% gain suggests investors viewed the quarter as solid but largely in line with expectations, with strong refining execution, debt reduction and shareholder returns balanced by limited incremental upside in the reported results.
