Fastenal Rises 1% as Q3 Daily Sales Jump 15.5% and Operating Margin Expands
Fastenal (NASDAQ: FAST) shares rose about 1% after the company reported strong third-quarter 2026 operating performance, highlighted by double-digit sales growth and improved profitability.
Daily sales increased 15.5% year over year, driven primarily by market share gains with larger customers, pricing actions and broad-based demand across the company’s core end markets.
Profitability also strengthened. Operating margin increased to 21.5%, up 90 basis points from a year earlier, as leverage in selling, general and administrative expenses more than offset gross-margin pressure related to customer mix.
Cash generation remained solid, with operating cash flow of $422 million, equivalent to 105% of net income. The company said working-capital movements reflected the timing effects associated with strong sales growth.
Fastenal returned $328 million to shareholders through dividends and share repurchases during the quarter, representing about 82% of net income.
The company also cited progress across key strategic initiatives, including new key-account wins, broader adoption of digital technologies and deeper customer penetration through new onsite locations.
The 1% gain in Fastenal shares appears to reflect the combination of strong sales momentum, operating-margin expansion and healthy cash conversion, supporting confidence in continued execution despite some pressure on gross margins from customer mix.
