Microchip Launches New Touch Controllers for Display-Free Human Machine Interfaces
Microchip Technology introduced the MTCH3380P and MTCH3240P, its first turnkey capacitive-touch controllers to use parallel sensing for buttons, sliders and wheels.
The new devices are designed for display-free human machine interfaces used in appliances, industrial equipment and outdoor systems, where large numbers of touch sensors can otherwise slow response times and reduce signal quality.
Both controllers use 12 on-chip analog-to-digital converters operating in parallel. The MTCH3380P supports up to 38 sensors in self-capacitance mode and 64 in mutual-capacitance mode, while the MTCH3240P supports up to 24 and 32 sensors, respectively.
Microchip said the design improves acquisition speed, signal-to-noise ratio and touch reliability, including through thick cover materials and when users are wearing gloves. Target applications include ovens, cooktops, refrigerators, washing machines, EV chargers, parking meters and kiosks.
The devices also support customer-driven IEC 60730 Class B functional safety certification and operation at temperatures up to 105°C.
Pricing starts at $1.06 for the MTCH3380P and $0.80 for the MTCH3240P in 10,000-unit quantities, positioning the products as relatively low-cost components for more advanced capacitive-touch interfaces.
