Agilent Launches NovoStation to Automate Flow Cytometry Sample Preparation

Agilent Technologies launched the NovoStation Sample Preparation System, a new automated platform designed to simplify and standardize flow cytometry sample preparation.

When used with Agilent’s NovoCyte flow cytometers and NovoExpress software, NovoStation creates a connected sample-to-answer workflow that automates reagent cocktailing and sample washing before moving samples directly into data acquisition.

The system is aimed at pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, contract research, core laboratory and academic settings where higher sample volumes and increasingly complex assays can make manual preparation time-consuming and variable.

In validation studies, NovoStation reduced hands-on preparation time by more than 90% while maintaining data quality comparable with manual processing. In a 25-color immunophenotyping workflow involving 30 samples, operator time fell to 7.9 minutes from 85.5 minutes manually. In a kappa/lambda light-chain assay, hands-on time declined to 6.8 minutes from 89.4 minutes.

Agilent said the automation can help laboratories improve reproducibility, reduce workflow bottlenecks and standardize procedures across users and sites.

The company will officially unveil NovoStation at the International Clinical Cytometry Society 2026 conference in Miami, running from October 2 through October 6.
