Fifth Third Bank Launches Innovation Banking Platform for Startups and Growth Companies
Fifth Third Bank launched Fifth Third Innovation Banking, a new platform combining Comerica’s long-established technology and life sciences banking franchise with Fifth Third’s Newline embedded payments infrastructure.
The offering is designed to serve startups, venture-backed companies and other growth businesses throughout their lifecycle, from early-stage liquidity and operating needs to lending, treasury, capital markets and wealth management.
Fifth Third said the business addresses a gap between highly specialized venture-focused providers and traditional banks that may lack dedicated expertise in the innovation economy. By combining sector experience with broader commercial banking capabilities, the bank aims to keep clients on a single platform as they scale.
The bank also sees significant financial potential from the initiative, estimating a roughly $10 billion multi-year deposit growth opportunity.
A key component is Newline, Fifth Third’s API-driven embedded banking platform, which supports payment, card and deposit products. The platform is already used by companies including Trustly and Stripe.
The launch reflects Fifth Third’s broader strategy to expand in technology-driven commercial banking while building deeper relationships with high-growth companies and venture-backed businesses.
