The Hartford Names A. Morris Tooker as Next CEO
The Hartford announced that company President A. Morris “Mo” Tooker will become chief executive officer, effective March 1, 2027.
Tooker will succeed Christopher Swift, who will transition to executive chair of the board. Tooker will also join The Hartford’s board beginning October 1, 2026.
Tooker joined the company in 2015 as chief underwriting officer and has since held several senior leadership roles. As president, he currently oversees business performance, strategy and enterprise-wide execution. During his tenure, he has focused on underwriting discipline, broader risk appetite, risk-mitigation services and closer coordination across business units.
Swift will move to executive chair after nearly 13 years as CEO. During his tenure, The Hartford said it significantly strengthened its financial profile, more than tripled net income return on equity and delivered an eightfold increase in share price, while expanding technology capabilities and product offerings.
As executive chair, Swift will continue to oversee the board, help guide corporate strategy and advise Tooker during the transition. He plans to step down from the executive chair role in the second half of 2027.
The succession is designed to preserve strategic continuity while handing day-to-day leadership to an executive with deep experience across The Hartford’s underwriting and operating businesses.
