Samsara Launches MCP to Bring Live Operational Data Into AI Tools
Samsara launched Samsara MCP, a Model Context Protocol connection that allows customers to bring live operational data from its platform into third-party AI assistants, agents and applications without building custom integrations.
The new capability lets authorized users connect Samsara data to tools including ChatGPT, Claude Desktop, Microsoft Copilot and Cursor while preserving existing permissions and single sign-on controls. More than 40 read-only tools can retrieve information on vehicles, drivers, safety events and hours of service without modifying records.
Samsara said the connection is built on the same live operational data layer used by Samsara Assistant. Customers can either build agents inside Samsara through Agent Studio or connect their own Samsara data to external AI systems for broader cross-platform analysis.
Potential use cases include comparing driver hours with Workday time records, combining mileage and fuel consumption with financial data to explain spending variances, and matching equipment utilization with rental agreements to identify underused assets.
