Atlassian Launches New AI Agent System to Automate Software Development Workflows
Atlassian has introduced new capabilities across Jira and DX designed to help engineering teams deploy and manage AI agents throughout the software development lifecycle, as enterprises increasingly shift toward agentic software development.
The new system uses Atlassian’s Teamwork Graph to provide AI agents with organizational and technical context. Code Context gives Rovo and coding agents access to relevant information across multiple code repositories, while Agent Context Controls allow companies to determine which Jira and Confluence spaces agents can access.
Atlassian is also introducing autonomous “agent loops” in Jira that continuously identify suitable backlog tasks, assign them to the Jira Coding Agent for execution and testing, and automatically create pull requests for developers to review. New Standards and AI Review features provide organization-wide coding rules and automated review of generated code.
The company is adding monitoring tools through DX for Agentic Development and a Jira Agent Usage Dashboard to measure AI-driven productivity, quality, adoption and costs. Atlassian said its research found that while 94% of engineering leaders use AI, only 6% currently have systems capable of scaling it across the full software development lifecycle.
