Chile’s Copper Exports Fall to $4.63 Billion in August

Chile’s copper exports declined sharply in August, while the country’s trade surplus also narrowed from the previous month.

Copper exports totaled $4.625 billion, down from $5.369 billion previously, a decline of about 14%.

Chile’s trade surplus narrowed to $1.69 billion in August from $1.99 billion in the previous period.

The figures point to weaker export performance from the world’s largest copper-producing country. Because copper represents a major share of Chile’s export revenues, changes in shipments and global copper prices can have a significant influence on the country’s trade balance and broader economic outlook.
