Grindr Settles UK Privacy Lawsuit for £26 Million
Grindr (NYSE: GRND) has reached a settlement in a UK group action concerning historical data practices before 2020, agreeing to pay a total of £26 million to resolve the litigation.
The case was brought on behalf of UK Grindr users and alleged violations of UK privacy laws relating to a period when the company was owned and controlled by Chinese conglomerate Kunlun. Grindr said the settlement includes no finding or admission of liability and that it continues to dispute the allegations.
Under the agreement, Grindr will pay £13 million by December 31, 2026, followed by another £13 million by March 31, 2027. Based on the exchange rate cited in the filing, each payment is worth approximately $17.6 million, putting the total at roughly $35.2 million.
Grindr Highlights Privacy Changes Since 2020
The company emphasized that its ownership and management have changed since the period covered by the lawsuit. Grindr said it has overhauled its privacy program since 2020, focusing on transparency, user control and responsible data practices.
The settlement removes a legal overhang related to Grindr’s historical operations while creating approximately $35 million in scheduled cash payments over the next two quarters.
