L3Harris Technology Supports Successful Launch of NASA’s Roman Space Telescope

L3Harris Technologies (NYSE: LHX) announced that key technology developed by the company is aboard NASA’s successfully launched Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, marking the culmination of more than a decade of collaboration with NASA.

L3Harris supplied Roman’s 2.4-meter Optical Telescope Assembly, which serves as the observatory’s primary optical system. The company also provided radiation-hardened electronics designed to keep the telescope operating approximately 1 million miles from Earth.

Once operational, Roman is expected to survey the cosmos around 1,000 times faster than the Hubble Space Telescope. Its missions include mapping billions of galaxies, observing hundreds of millions of stars and potentially identifying more than 100,000 distant worlds.

The telescope will also scan roughly 12% of the sky in less than 18 months, helping scientists study the expansion of the universe and observe supernova explosions dating back as far as 8 billion years.

The successful launch reinforces L3Harris’ position in the space and defense technology sector, particularly in advanced optics and mission-critical space systems. The company has previously contributed technology to major programs including the James Webb Space Telescope, Mars Perseverance and Curiosity rovers, GPS satellites and the International Space Station.
