Fortinet Federal Earns CMMC Level 2 Certification as FTNT Rises 2%

Fortinet (NASDAQ: FTNT) shares were up about 2.2% on Wednesday after its Fortinet Federal subsidiary achieved Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) Level 2.

The certification followed an independent assessment and validates Fortinet Federal’s implementation of 110 cybersecurity requirements aligned with NIST SP 800-171 Revision 2. These controls are designed to protect Controlled Unclassified Information and are particularly important for companies operating within the U.S. Defense Industrial Base.

The achievement could strengthen Fortinet’s competitive position in federal cybersecurity. Beyond demonstrating its own compliance, Fortinet offers security products that can help government contractors meet CMMC requirements. Its FortiGate Next-Generation Firewall alone maps to 83 of the 110 Level 2 requirements.

The certification therefore provides both a credibility boost for Fortinet’s government business and a potential commercial opportunity as defense contractors strengthen cybersecurity systems to comply with CMMC requirements.

FTNT was trading around $157, up approximately 2.2% during Wednesday’s session.
