Fiserv and Flagstar Bank Expand Partnership With Major Core Banking Modernization Deal
Fiserv (NASDAQ: FISV) and Flagstar Bank (NYSE: FLG) announced a strategic core banking partnership on Monday, with Flagstar selecting Fiserv’s Finxact platform as the foundation of a major technology modernization initiative.
Under the agreement, Finxact will become Flagstar’s next-generation system of record and transaction-processing engine, replacing legacy technology as the bank moves toward a single consolidated core banking platform. The conversion will be implemented in phases.
The deal represents a significant enterprise win for Fiserv’s financial technology business. Flagstar is one of the largest regional banks in the U.S., with $87.7 billion in assets, $67.5 billion in deposits and approximately 340 locations across nine states as of June 30.
Finxact Gains a Major Banking Customer
Finxact is Fiserv’s cloud-native, API-first core banking platform designed to provide real-time transaction processing and data access while allowing banks to introduce products and services more quickly.
Flagstar will make Finxact a key component of its broader Flagstar S2 Platform technology transformation. The bank expects the system to support real-time, digital-first banking services while providing greater flexibility than its existing legacy infrastructure.
For Fiserv, securing a bank of Flagstar’s scale provides an important validation of Finxact as a core platform for large financial institutions. Successful implementation could also strengthen Fiserv’s position as banks increasingly replace decades-old core systems with cloud-based architectures.
Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed. While the announcement provides a positive strategic catalyst for Fiserv, investors will likely focus on whether the Flagstar deployment can help accelerate adoption of Finxact among other large and regional banks.
