# Microchip Technology Expands Space Semiconductor Portfolio With New Atomic Clock
Microchip Technology (NASDAQ: MCHP) announced the launch of its Space CSAC-SA65, a radiation-tolerant Chip Scale Atomic Clock designed for satellites and other space systems.
The new device combines atomic-clock accuracy with low power consumption and a compact design. It offers radiation tolerance of at least 30 kRad, operates across temperatures from -40°C to +80°C and consumes less than 120 mW.
## Targeting Growing Satellite Demand
The CSAC-SA65 is designed particularly for Low Earth Orbit missions, including satellite communications, navigation, Earth imaging and satellite cross-linking. Its built-in synchronization capabilities allow spacecraft to maintain precise timing even when external references such as GNSS signals are unavailable.
Microchip said the product uses radiation-tolerant commercial components, potentially providing lower costs and shorter lead times than traditional radiation-hardened space timing systems.
The launch strengthens Microchip's position in aerospace and defense semiconductors while giving the company additional exposure to growing demand for smaller, lower-cost satellite platforms and New Space applications.
