JDcom (JD) Falls 6.7% After Q2 Revenue Declines Despite Stronger Profit
JDcom (NASDAQ: JD) shares are down about 6.7% after the company reported second-quarter 2026 results, with investors focusing on weakening top-line momentum despite a substantial improvement in profitability.
Net revenue fell 2.9% year over year to RMB346.4 billion ($51.1 billion), primarily due to a high comparison base. More importantly, JD Retail revenue declined 4.7%, while New Businesses revenue dropped 47.6%. JD Logistics was a bright spot, with revenue rising 24.3%.
Revenue Weakness Overshadows Profit Improvement
Profitability improved considerably. Operating income reached RMB4.5 billion versus an RMB0.9 billion loss a year earlier, while non-GAAP EBITDA climbed to RMB7.9 billion from RMB3.0 billion. Non-GAAP net income increased to RMB8.9 billion, and adjusted diluted earnings per ADS rose to RMB6.29 from RMB4.97.
However, the 6.7% stock decline likely reflects concerns that the earnings improvement is occurring alongside weaker core retail sales. Fulfillment expenses also increased 10.4% and R&D spending jumped 37.7%, indicating continued investment requirements even as overall revenue contracts.
JD's underlying cash generation remained strong, with quarterly free cash flow increasing to RMB31.8 billion from RMB22.0 billion a year earlier.
Overall, the report shows improving efficiency and profitability, but the market reaction suggests investors are placing greater weight on declining revenue and softness in JD's core retail business.
