Microchip Advances Edge AI Push With New NVIDIA-Compatible PolarFire Sensor Bridge

Microchip Technology (NASDAQ: MCHP) announced the release of its second-generation PolarFire FPGA Ethernet Sensor Bridge, expanding its hardware offering for NVIDIA-powered edge AI applications.

The new Rev 2.0 platform is 60% smaller than its predecessor, supports twice as many cameras and uses 10Gb Ethernet connectivity. It is designed to work with NVIDIA Holoscan Sensor Bridge technology and edge computing platforms including NVIDIA Jetson and IGX.

The platform supports up to four cameras and enables real-time multi-sensor processing with end-to-end latency measurement. Microchip said the architecture can reduce power consumption, system costs and integration complexity for applications including humanoid robotics, industrial automation and AI-enabled medical systems.

The launch strengthens Microchip's exposure to the growing edge AI ecosystem, where increasingly complex AI workloads require high-speed connections between cameras, sensors and local computing hardware.

For Microchip, the NVIDIA-compatible platform also provides another potential growth avenue for its PolarFire FPGA portfolio as AI adoption expands beyond data centers into robotics, industrial equipment and other physical AI applications.
