Cloudflare Secures FedRAMP High Authorization, Expanding Access to U.S. Government Security Market
Cloudflare (NYSE: NET) announced Monday that Cloudflare for Government has achieved FedRAMP High certification and GovRAMP Moderate authorization, expanding the company's ability to provide cloud security, performance and developer services to U.S. public-sector organizations.
FedRAMP High is particularly significant because it allows federal agencies and their partners to use Cloudflare's platform for High Impact data, including sensitive information associated with national security, critical infrastructure and financial systems.
Cloudflare said authorized data will be processed within a U.S. boundary spanning 15 metro areas.
Cloudflare Targets Defense and Regulated Markets
The company also announced plans to pursue Department of Defense Impact Level 4, or IL4, authorization, which could further expand its opportunity within defense-related workloads.
Cloudflare for Government combines Zero Trust security, network performance, application development and AI-related capabilities on a unified platform. The company also provides post-quantum cryptography designed to protect data in transit against emerging cryptographic threats.
Cloudflare said more than 100 U.S. government agencies already use its technology, including agencies within the Departments of Commerce, Energy, Homeland Security, Justice and State.
The new authorizations could allow Cloudflare to compete for a broader range of sensitive government workloads while helping agencies consolidate legacy networking and cybersecurity infrastructure.
For Cloudflare, the certifications represent another step in expanding beyond its traditional commercial customer base into government and highly regulated markets, where security certifications can be an important barrier to entry and a prerequisite for larger contracts.
