Akamai Stock Jumps 7% Despite Mixed Analyst Updates From Susquehanna and HSBC

Akamai Technologies (NASDAQ: AKAM) shares rose about 7% Monday despite mixed analyst actions, as Susquehanna maintained a bullish view while HSBC became more cautious on the cloud computing and cybersecurity company.

Susquehanna analyst Aaron Samuels lowered the firm's price target on Akamai to $140 from $175 but maintained a Positive rating. The revised target still implies roughly 20% upside from the stock's recent price of $116.34.

At the same time, HSBC analyst Stephen Bersey cut the firm's price target to $123 from $171 and moved its rating to Hold from Buy.

Analyst Views Diverge on Akamai

The two reports present a mixed picture. Susquehanna's substantial target reduction indicates lower expectations for Akamai's valuation, but the Positive rating suggests the firm still sees meaningful upside.

HSBC's move was more cautious, with both a significant price-target reduction and a downgrade to Hold. Its new $123 target is only modestly above Akamai's current trading level.

Despite these revisions, AKAM shares gained approximately 7%, suggesting investors are focusing on factors beyond the analyst changes or had already priced in more cautious expectations.

The strong move also indicates that the target cuts have not materially undermined near-term sentiment toward the stock. Investors will now be watching whether Akamai can sustain the rally and whether other analysts adjust their forecasts following the company's recent developments.
