Lam Research Stock Rises 8% Premarket as Record Results and Strong AI Demand Lift Outlook

Lam Research (NASDAQ: LRCX) shares climbed 8% in premarket trading on Thursday after the semiconductor equipment maker reported record quarterly revenue and earnings while issuing stronger-than-expected guidance, underscoring continued momentum from AI-driven chip manufacturing investments.

Revenue reached a record $6.72 billion in the June quarter, up 15% sequentially, while GAAP diluted earnings per share increased 25% to $1.81. Profitability also improved significantly, with gross margin expanding to 51.7% and operating margin rising to 37.4%. On a non-GAAP basis, EPS came in at $1.82.

AI Boom Continues to Drive Semiconductor Equipment Demand

The company's results highlight the ongoing strength in wafer fabrication equipment demand as semiconductor manufacturers continue expanding capacity to support artificial intelligence workloads.

Systems revenue rose to $4.25 billion, while customer support and services revenue increased to $2.47 billion. Taiwan, China and South Korea accounted for nearly three-quarters of total revenue, reflecting continued investment by leading global chipmakers.

CEO Tim Archer said Lam delivered record revenue, operating margin and earnings per share as AI-driven demand continues to reshape the semiconductor industry, positioning the company for a third consecutive year of outperformance.

Strong Guidance Reinforces Bullish Outlook

Investor sentiment was further boosted by Lam's outlook for the September quarter. The company expects revenue of approximately $8.1 billion, plus or minus $400 million, with gross margin around 52% and diluted EPS of $2.15, all pointing to another quarter of robust growth.

The results also reinforce the positive earnings trend across the semiconductor industry this week, following strong reports from Microsoft and other AI-related companies, suggesting that enterprise AI spending continues to drive demand throughout the semiconductor supply chain.

What to Watch

Investors will now focus on whether AI-related capital spending remains strong enough to sustain elevated demand for wafer fabrication equipment through 2027. Continued investment by hyperscalers and leading foundries, particularly in advanced logic and memory manufacturing, remains a key catalyst for Lam Research and the broader semiconductor equipment sector.
