KLA Stock Falls 7% in Premarket Despite Record Quarterly Results as Investors React to Elevated Expectations
KLA Corporation (NASDAQ: KLAC) shares fell 7% in Wednesday's premarket trading despite reporting record fourth-quarter results and issuing guidance that points to continued growth, suggesting investors were taking profits after the stock's strong run and exceptionally high expectations tied to AI-related semiconductor spending.
The semiconductor equipment maker reported fourth-quarter revenue of $3.66 billion, exceeding the midpoint of its guidance range and rising from $3.18 billion a year earlier. GAAP net income increased to $1.36 billion, while GAAP diluted EPS reached $1.04. On a non-GAAP basis, diluted EPS came in at $1.05, also at the upper end of management's guidance.
KLA continued to generate strong cash flow during the quarter, producing $906.4 million in operating cash flow and $817.1 million in free cash flow. The company also returned $876.3 million to shareholders through dividends and share repurchases during the quarter, bringing total capital returns for fiscal 2026 to $3.35 billion.
Management struck an optimistic tone on the outlook, forecasting first-quarter fiscal 2027 revenue of approximately $4.0 billion, plus or minus $200 million, implying continued growth. CEO Rick Wallace said demand is being fueled by accelerating AI infrastructure investment, increasing complexity in leading-edge logic and memory chips, and expanding opportunities in advanced packaging, all of which are driving greater demand for KLA's process control technologies.
Despite the upbeat results and outlook, the stock moved lower as investors appeared to focus on valuation following a powerful rally in AI-related semiconductor stocks. With KLA trading near record highs, the strong quarter may have been largely priced in, leaving little room for upside despite another earnings beat.
The premarket decline therefore appears to reflect profit-taking rather than a deterioration in KLA's fundamentals. The company's strong execution, robust cash generation, and favorable outlook suggest it remains well positioned to benefit from long-term AI-driven semiconductor investment, although investor expectations for the sector remain exceptionally high.
