German Economic Sentiment Jumps in July as Confidence Improves
German investor confidence improved far more than expected in July, signaling growing optimism about the outlook for Europe’s largest economy despite continued weakness in current business conditions.
The ZEW Economic Sentiment Index climbed to 26.3 in July, comfortably beating the consensus estimate of 15.1 and rising sharply from 10.5 in June. The stronger-than-expected reading suggests financial market experts have become increasingly optimistic about Germany’s economic prospects over the next six months.
Meanwhile, the ZEW Current Conditions Index improved to -77.6 from -81.0 in the previous month, slightly outperforming expectations of -77.8. Although the indicator remains deeply negative, the improvement points to a gradual stabilization in current economic conditions.
