Enbridge (ENB) Q1 2026: Strong Results, Stock Slips 1%
Enbridge reported a solid first quarter today, yet shares are trading 1% lower — a textbook "sell the news" move in a session where energy is lagging the broader market rally.
The Canadian pipeline giant posted adjusted EBITDA of C$5.8 billion, in line with the prior year, and distributable cash flow of C$3.9 billion, up from C$3.8 billion in Q1 2025. Adjusted earnings came in at C$0.98 per share, roughly matching year-ago levels. The company reaffirmed its full-year 2026 financial guidance and multi-year outlook — a reassuring signal given the volatile energy backdrop driven by the U.S.-Iran conflict and Strait of Hormuz disruptions.
On the growth front, Enbridge sanctioned a US$0.7 billion, 300 MW onshore wind project in Texas to power Meta's data center operations under a long-term agreement, and a US$0.4 billion expansion of its Tres Palacios natural gas storage facility to serve rising Gulf Coast LNG export demand. Its secured capital backlog now stands at $40 billion, with a further $50 billion of unsanctioned opportunities in the pipeline.
CEO Greg Ebel framed the Iran conflict as a tailwind for North American energy infrastructure, noting that geopolitical disruptions are reinforcing the region's role as a reliable global energy supplier. Mainline volumes averaged 3.2 million barrels per day and the system has been apportioned all year.
The 1% pullback likely reflects profit-taking and sector rotation on a day when investors are chasing tech, not pipelines. The underlying fundamentals remain intact.
