Fujitsu Limited and Carnegie Mellon University have launched a joint Physical AI Research Center to advance the development and real-world application of AI systems that interact with physical environments.
The center will focus on integrating technologies such as robotics, machine learning, simulation, and human–robot interaction to address challenges in sectors including manufacturing, logistics, infrastructure, and healthcare. It will leverage interdisciplinary expertise from both academia and industry to accelerate deployment of physical AI solutions.
A key initiative includes the development of Fujitsu’s “Kozuchi Physical OS,” a platform designed to coordinate robots, sensors, and systems in real-world environments by combining adaptive “brain intelligence” and environmental “spatial intelligence.” Technologies developed at the center are expected to be gradually integrated starting in fiscal 2026.
The collaboration aims to support automation, improve productivity, and enable safer human–robot collaboration, contributing to the development of sustainable and resilient social infrastructure.
