PPG Industries announced the launch of its PPG NUTRISHIELD® MAX PPG7590, the first PVC-NI (polyvinyl chloride non-intent) single-component interior coating in the U.S. for aluminum pet food cans.
The new solution is designed for aluminum draw-redraw (DRD) cans and easy-open ends used in wet pet food packaging. Its single-component, ready-to-use formulation eliminates the need for mixing and multiple coating systems, helping manufacturers streamline operations, reduce downtime, and lower material waste.
PPG highlighted that the coating is formulated without PVC, PFAS, BPA, and other bisphenols, aligning with evolving regulatory and sustainability requirements. It also delivers strong performance characteristics, including stain resistance across various pet food types and protection of product integrity, supporting shelf life and reducing food waste.
The company stated that the innovation improves manufacturing efficiency while maintaining high visual quality with a clean white interior finish. The product has already received approvals from major pet food brands and can manufacturers and will be showcased at the METPACK 2026 in Essen.
