Block Inc. announced that its Square Handheld device powered a high-profile mobile retail activation by Wild West Social House during the Coachella Valley music festival, highlighting growing demand for flexible, on-the-go commerce solutions.

The Los Angeles-based fashion rental club used Square’s portable point-of-sale system to run a fully operational pop-up experience, enabling real-time inventory tracking and seamless payments in a challenging desert environment with limited connectivity. The activation marked the company’s first major off-site expansion beyond its flagship location.

Square Handheld allowed staff to manage thousands of unique luxury items while maintaining accurate inventory and delivering high-touch customer service. Features such as offline payment capability and mobile catalog synchronization proved critical in supporting operations during the multi-day event.

The initiative reflects a broader shift toward mobile-first retail models, as brands increasingly seek to engage customers at events and temporary locations. Block said the collaboration demonstrates how integrated payment and inventory tools can enable new business models and support expansion, with Wild West Social House planning further growth, including a new location in New York City.
