Petrobras announced a new hydrocarbon discovery in the pre-salt layer of the Campos Basin, offshore Brazil, strengthening its exploration portfolio in deepwater areas.
The discovery was made at well 1-BRSA-1404DC-RJS in block C-M-477, located about 201 km off the coast of Rio de Janeiro at a water depth of nearly 3,000 meters. Hydrocarbon presence was confirmed through logging data, gas shows, and fluid sampling, with further laboratory analysis planned to assess reservoir quality and commercial potential.
Petrobras operates the block with a 70% stake, alongside bp holding 30%. The company said the discovery aligns with its strategy to replenish oil and gas reserves while supporting energy supply during the transition period.
