Amgen announced positive Phase 3 results for a new subcutaneous version of its thyroid eye disease treatment, TEPEZZA.
The study met its primary endpoint, with about 77% of patients achieving a significant reduction in eye bulging (proptosis), compared to roughly 20% in the placebo group. The treatment also demonstrated clinically meaningful improvements across multiple secondary measures, including symptom severity and quality of life.
The subcutaneous (under-the-skin) delivery method showed comparable effectiveness to the existing intravenous version, while offering a more convenient administration option for patients.
Amgen said the safety profile was consistent with previous data, with mostly mild-to-moderate side effects.
The company highlighted that this development could expand access to treatment for thyroid eye disease, a rare and potentially vision-threatening autoimmune condition.
