March 31, 2026 — L3Harris Technologies and Comtech Telecommunications announced the launch of a new tactical SATCOM modem, described as the first embeddable multi-orbit modem of its kind.
The 5650C2/MP modem enables seamless connectivity across multiple satellite orbits, including medium, geosynchronous, and highly elliptical orbits, allowing operators to access global, high-throughput communications through a single device. The system is designed for use with L3Harris’ tactical SATCOM terminals, enhancing deployment speed and operational flexibility.
The modem has been certified for use on SES’s mPower constellation and is undergoing further certification with U.S. Space Force systems. Built on a software-defined architecture, it supports rapid reconfiguration and advanced security features, including resistance to interference and jamming.
The companies said the innovation improves mission effectiveness by delivering resilient, secure, and flexible communications in demanding operational environments.
