GE HealthCare has announced a leading industrial role in the COMPASS consortium, one of the largest EU-funded public-private partnerships under the Innovative Health Initiative, aimed at advancing cardio-oncology care across Europe.
The five-year project, with a total budget of €50.5 million and more than 60 partners, focuses on improving early detection and prediction of cardiovascular complications in cancer patients and survivors. The initiative will leverage artificial intelligence, advanced imaging technologies, biomarkers, and integrated care pathways to address cardiotoxicity risks associated with cancer treatments.
Cardiovascular disease has emerged as a major cause of mortality among cancer survivors, accounting for up to 10% of deaths. COMPASS aims to tackle this challenge by developing predictive tools, identifying novel biomarkers, and enabling more personalized and coordinated care between oncology and cardiology disciplines.
Co-funded under the EU’s Horizon Europe program, the consortium seeks to translate scientific and technological innovations into routine clinical practice, improving long-term outcomes and reducing healthcare system pressure across Europe.
