Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. – Petrobras said its board approved the company’s participation in Brazil’s diesel commercialization subsidy program created under Provisional Measure No. 1,340.
The program provides an economic subsidy for road diesel sales in Brazil, and Petrobras said joining the initiative is compatible with its business interests given the program’s optional nature and potential financial benefit. The company noted that the formal signing of the agreement will depend on regulatory guidelines from the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels regarding reference pricing needed to implement the subsidy.
Petrobras added that the decision does not change its commercial strategy, which focuses on optimizing refining assets, maintaining market share and sustaining profitability while avoiding the full transfer of international price and exchange-rate volatility to domestic fuel prices.
